Orange and blue versus red and white. To the Lady Mavs varsity soccer team, these colors meant not another game, but an opportunity to make a comeback after multiple losses within the district. On Tuesday, March 20, the girls took down Lee with a score of 3-1.

“Our district is extremely competitive, but we have improved against each team during the second round in district,” said coach Candace Pearson. “The main reason for our success against Lee was the fact that all of the girls stepped up and worked together to get the job done. When that happens, we are successful.”

The win against Lee has kept players optimistic in future games and seasons.

“The best part of [winning] is we know we have all this potential for next year,” said sophomore Shawnee Pelletier.

Beyond optimism, there’s confidence regained in the Lady Mavs abilities as a team.

“We haven’t had a win in a while and it feels good to feel confident again,” said senior captain Hailey Garcia. “I feel like our effort was all the way there, where it should’ve been.”

Even though the Lady Mavs won, they won’t be making it to playoffs this year.

“[Going to playoffs] is definitely our goal next year,” Coach Pearson said.
