Review: Mr. Madison Saves the World

Photo and Story By Alexandra Gutierrez

12 superheroes from 12 different groups, 12 talents, six finalists, and only one winner.

The seventh annual Mr. Madison pageant took place on May 3 in the PAC. Boys from different clubs and organizations from across campus came together  to display their talents and explain, in superhero fashion, what they would do to protect the innocent students of Madison.

This year’s theme was ‘Mr. Save the World.’ The boys dressed up as their favorite superheroes, such as Wolverine, Superman, and Green Lantern, and performed a dance routine with the other contestants. They went on to perform talents. Some danced and sang, others attempted to play guitar, and Mr. Band drummed, just like in past years. All the talents were all very entertaining and everyone made the crowd laugh. Whether is was because of their humorous dance moves or because of their nervous, charming chatter, every contestant was able to get a chuckle out of someone.

Then the finalists were named: Paddy Hawbecker, Mark Ehrlich, Dylan Zera, Joaquin Kray, Samuel Vicente, and Tony Carmona. Then they participated in the easiest—or hardest, depending on how big the superhero fanatic inside you is—part of the pageant. Superhero trivia. What’s Wonder Woman’s weapon? Lasso. What’s Batman’s real name? Bruce Wayne. Then, hypothetical questions. If you could pick your power, would would it be? Teleportation, maybe. What would your sidekick’s name be? Maybe, just maybe, a combination of the judges’ names followed by “awesome.”

At the end of the night, the scores were tallied and PAL’s Mark Ehrlich took the crown. Behind him, Mr. Band, Samuel Vicente, and Mr. Culinary, Dylan Zera. The loss, the rest of our heroes left happy for the winners and everyone left with the stage with a once-in-a-lifetime memory.
