Sounds of the Season: Choir Carols the Night Away

By Randee Schmitt

On Dec. 10 the Madison Choir performed their annual winter concert in the performing arts center. Show choir, the varsity choirs, and chorale all wowed the audience with their spectacular sound and sensational enthusiasm.

With choir members singing while they entered and exited from the stage, the show flowed nicely, and a medley of holiday tunes filled the air. Conducted by Edie Cooksey and Michael Murphy, choir teachers, this talented group of  consists of many students. Also, this year Cooksey and Murphy allowed their student teacher to conduct much of the show.

Aside from the challenge of walking and singing, Erika Parris, sophomore choir member, felt that the performance was good and that the singers and audience members alike were entertained. To give everyone the opportunity to be involved in the show, Murphy grabbed his guitar and asked the audience to sing along to “Feliz Navidad.” The outcome was nothing short of enjoyable, everyone in the auditorium joining in the fun.

The remainder of the show went as smoothly as the first half, with more songs and solos. Many choir members like Kora Wallace, senior, said that singing makes them happy, and that’s why they do it. This was evident through the smiles and passion that came from every student as they shined in the spotlights of the stage.
