Young Art

If you go downtown on the First Friday of any month, it may seem more crowded than any other Friday because on First Friday all of downtown transforms into a place of art, ultimately becoming the art district of San Antonio. In the heart of all the madness lies SAY SÍ, a non-profit organization that gives students from all over the city a chance to work on art in a professional environment.

“It [SAY SÍ] was a way to learn new concepts and techniques in an open environment,” Junior Ann ‘Christin’ Engelberth said. “It’s non-judgemental, with good constructive criticism.”

With about five galleries a year, on September 6th, SAY SÍ opened the Retake gallery, as a part of national photo galleryvFotoseptimbre USA, with a majority of the galleries online. For their gallery, SAY SÍ’s theme was experimental drawing.

“It was a piece depicting many different scenes drawn in many different mediums on pieces of wood,” Engelberth said. “I wanted to try drawing in different techniques for this.”

The gallery at SAY SÍ runs through the 27th and is located at 1518 S. Alamo.
