The Eldritch in the Forest: Part 1- Beginning of an Adventure*

The leaves and twigs under my feet crunch as I move through the thicket of this forest. I came to a restricted forrest to take a small vacation and to get rid of my past trauma, as recommended by my therapist, though he didnt say to come to a confined forrest.

̈Don’t do anything rash, Mathew, ̈ he warned, ̈ This retreat is supposed to help you get over your past of… well, the accident. It’s hard to lose your whole family in a car crash and being the only survivor… ¨

¨I still think that, that tall thing caused it, I can’t help but think about it, faceless and long limbed… It was traumatizing.¨ I spoke shakily.

After that, I just packed my bags without really thinking.

I got too lost in thought and realize that I’m standing on at a small clearing, a perfect spot to set up my small camp site. I take off the heavy backpack, relieved to finally take off all the weight of my supplies. It’s time to get to work. I take out a bag where my tent is and start to set it up. When I was proud of what I had built, I realized the day started moving in to dusk. I go in search of any kindling to start a fire, twigs and some logs that were left by maybe some other hooligans that came by here. When Im done and about to head back to my site, I hear rough rustling far behind me.

¨Well, it is a prohibited forrest…¨,I thought, ¨No surprise that there would be any animals out here.¨ I go back to my site carrying the heavy leftover logs and place them around in a teepee form. When I light it up, I could almost swear that I saw someone right behind the flames, a tall figure that suddenly disappeared when the fire sustained itself.I start to feel light headed, like I was about to vomit. ̈Maybe I just need some rest…¨, I assure myself. I crawl into my tent kicking off my boots and feeling nauseous. I settle down on my inflatable bed with my pillow and the fire as my only company.
