No. Your child’s classroom will only have children from your assigned campus. In essence, we will be operating two independent schools within a single campus on a temporary basis.
What provisions is the district taking to prevent future construction issues?
The district has recently developed and implemented a District Contractor Pre-Qualification Process, which establishes specific criteria that both subcontractors and general contractors must meet in order to be considered qualified to bid on future North East ISD construction projects. The Pre-Qualification Process was employed during the bidding phase of the New Middle School #14 Project (2011 Bond Program) which recently bid in April 2012. We believe this new Pre-Qualification initiative will help minimize the potential for contractor default in future construction projects and will work to improve the overall construction process for district bond programs. The Pre-Qualification criteria include a provision that the subcontractor/general contractor must have a local office established within one hundred miles of the school district’s central office for a minimum of two years.
Is it projected that one of the new schools may be ready for opening prior to the other or is it the goal of NEISD to open both at same time?
At this present time, it is our goal for both schools to open together.
Will new schools have counselors already staffed this summer to address any special needs of students who are at temporary school?
Yes. Counselors will start August 15, 2012, and will be available for any questions at that time. We invite you to refer any immediate questions you may have to the campus principal.
Will there be any special “Back to School” orientation for displaced students?
Yes, all campuses will be holding back to school events. Please check your campus’ Web site for details on dates, times and locations of all events.
Will there be enough classrooms for the additional student load?
Yes. By splitting grade levels into two temporary elementary campuses, k-3 in one and 4-5 in another, additional classrooms for flexibility will be available if necessary. If all the students are combined into one school, little or no extra classrooms will be available.
Will individual school mascots/colors be maintained, even at shared campuses?
Yes. All schools will have their own colors and mascots. Both new schools and existing schools will have their own t-shirts and unique spirit items.
What accommodations will be made for children with special needs?
All students with special needs will be provided the same services identified on their previous campus. It will be much better for the student to begin developing a relationship with the staff that will meet their needs throughout the year. All needed paperwork that describes the plans for these students have been transferred to the receiving staff.
If my children will be attending two different campuses, can they attend the same KIN program?
No. Students will attend the KIN program at the campus that they attend during the school day. The KIN office will monitor enrollments to identify families effected in this way and will work with them as necessary.
Will each of the interim campuses have two KIN Directors?
No. Directors hired for Las Lomas and Vineyard Ranch will rotate between the interim schools in order to get familiar with their students and parents. However, there will always be a Director on site.
