Superintendent Dr. Brian Gottardy sent out a special message thanking the community for their dedication and perseverance during “what was certainly a stressful week for everyone involved.”
Earlier in the day, schools took extra safety measures after several area elementary schools and central offices received an anonymous email threatening mass violence.
The letter below was posted just before 5 p.m. on NEISD’s website on April 24.
Dear NEISD Community,
I want to sincerely thank you once again for your dedication to this district and for your perseverance during what was certainly a stressful week for everyone involved.
Our number one priority is the safety and well-being of our students, staff and community. There are so many people who should be commended for their actions.
I began my morning visiting several of our elementary schools, and I was so impressed with the parents and staff that I visited with. Teachers were making students feel comfortable, and I saw families thanking principals for their open communication. I’d also like to recognize our police officers who worked tirelessly to ensure the safety of schools and neighborhoods.
Also, I couldn’t believe the number of Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students) who volunteered their time at so many schools. We certainly have some impressive parents.
I know many of our staff members spent the past few days answering questions from concerned parents and citizens. I certainly appreciate that and everything else you do on a daily basis.
All of this combined makes me so proud to be a part of this wonderful school district.
Brian G. Gottardy, Ed.D.
