The Las Casas Foundation’s unique scholarship program was designed to award financial assistance to talented college-bound senior students with an interest in the performing arts.
In a 2009 and 2010 performance based competition at the Charline McCombs Empire Theatre, Las Casas successfully awarded over $135,000 ranging from $5,000 to $500 per finalist.
The total awarded scholarship money included finalists, honorable mentions and essay winners.
Matilde Bernabei, who currently attends Texas State University was a $5,000 dollar winner at the 2009 competition.
“Not only did Las Casas help my family and me financially, but it was such a great experience. It was a great way to start out my musical theatre life in college! Completely enriching, memorable and fun,” Bernabei said.
Student Applications are available online at www.lascasasfoundation.org under the key word scholarship.
