Two students to head to state for VASE

Samantha Valdez and Jayce’Aira Lockart are headed to state for VASE.

Two students are headed to state after achieving the highest awards at VASE . Freshman Jayce’aira Lockart and senior Samantha Valdez will be going to Bryan, Texas on April 4-5.

“I’m extremely happy, cause I didn’t think that it would go to state,” Lockart said.

A total of 41 art students went to the competition and earned  47 medals at the event March 1 at Stevens High School.

 “It was a nice school, nice judges and pretty good experience, ” Lockhart said.

Lockart had submitted her abstract fish piece, and Valdez had submitted her western art piece consisting of cowboy boots and fiddle. For Valdez, it was her last chance as a senior to go to state.

“It was exactly what I expected, but this year I took it serious,” Valdez said.

 The following students received a medal at the competition:
