Senior EMT students Darlene Mercado and Philip Dial found themselves featured on Street’s Corner on Fox News last week after the two won second place in HOSA state competition on March 26-28.

The ranking may not have been the first place they wanted, but it still earned them a spot at Nationals in June and some local publicity with their teacher, HOSA sponsor Deborah Ramirez.

The two are part of a program that lets senior students shadow real Emergency Medical Technicians. They took a part in the “Shattered Dreams” program in March and Dial said it was a “very cool experience.”

Mercado wants to go to the University of Houston and enter the medical field. Dial, who is also interested in going to the University of Houston, surprisingly isn’t interested in going into the medical field, but IS interested in going into the business field.
