Varsity defeats Lee in close match

On Thursday evening, varsity tennis showed that Roosevelt’s “Rider Pride” really is alive.

In a four-hour match that ended with a tie breaker , the tennis team beat Lee 10-9 , bringing their district record to 1-3.

“We lost to the usual teams,” junior Maxwell Ulbert said. “If we beat Mac and Madison, we can make regionals.”

With only five juniors and one senior returning, this year has been tough and stressful for varsity.

“This year has been a struggle, we are a young team and this year will be a year of growth,” Coach Hillbig said.

Before beating Lee, the team lost against Alamo Heights, with only four girls which meant they were short by three.

The team faces Madison today to try to build on their district record.

“They have ability, they want to win,” Hillbig said. “They will win.”
