With only three games left in the season, the varsity football team is looking forward to overcome an adverse start.

“A tough start will just help us end stronger,” said senior Nathaniel Dillard.

Dillard is number 34 on the field and plays the position of defensive end. Dillard has played with some of the same boys for half his life, starting football at the age of twelve years old.

“Our team is a family, most of the time we’re more of a family than a team, and we include our supporters  because they help make our bond stronger.” Dillard said. “A family will be a family regardless of what disappointments we may face.”

The team has a lot of new players this year, and they are still making adjustments.

“We have lots of new comers this year, new faces. We’re just trying to get them to adjust to the varsity level,” said coach Matthew Carroll.  Carroll believes that his team can be an amazing team, they just need more experience.

The team will test their experience Saturday against Churchill at Comalander stadium at 7 p.m., looking for their first win in front of their fans as the home team.

“Our fans are our biggest inspiration, they push us to want to do better. They may have some issues believing in us now, but we will improve for them,” senior Jeremy Jones said.

Jones said he loves having the support from the fans; he feels that it really does bring out the best in him and his teammates.

“I love being out on the field and hearing the cheers from the stands, and the everlasting yells from the cheerleaders. It gives me such a rush,” said Jones, who plays number 77 on the field.

For the most committed fans, they just love to watch the games.

“I love watching our team play; I’m at every game,” senior Monique Lipscomb said. “Our school spirit is amazing.”
