“I think that the team will make it to the play offs again because  they’re young, but experienced,” said coach Rob Rheinberger. “They’re also always predictable to make it and we’re a group of ten really good girls.”

The varsity girls basketball team was 22-7 last year. The team made it to the first round of play off against Judson, the fourth time visiting playoffs in the seven years Coach Rob Rheinberger has been here.

“I’ve played since my freshman year and I like all the coaches,” Said Briana Still.

Coach Rob Rheinberger has been coaching the varsity team for seven years at Roosevelt.

Last year’s season was very competitive for the girls, who earned hard-fought games against Madison and MacArthur to get their play off spot, the first playoffs in two years.

“I think we will make it to the play offs again becasue we work hard and focus on each game,” Still said.

The returning varsity players are joined by six new teammates who made the team after tryouts the last week of October. Tryouts consisted of a combination of skills and conditioning. When try outs were going on the girls ran 4-5 miles throughout the week and now for just practices they will mainly work on sprint work.

“I want to become an inspiring leader,” senior Arysia Porter said.”Basketball makes me a better person because it helps me teach my teammates to do what they need to do.”

The first game is tonight Blossom against Seguin High School at 7.
