Band’s unique Christmas tree fundraiser

By Juan Villanueva

When you think about the word fundraiser, you probably think of kids selling things like cookies, chocolate, or sweets. However, the word fundraiser has had its meaning changed by the band students.

Earlier in the year they held a mattress sale, now it’s trees. Band students have been busy selling Christmas trees to collect money to help pay for trips and equipment. Each student has been given the task to sell the trees to friends, family members and neighbors.

“I think it’s a great and unique fundraiser that will benefit the TR Band,” Band Director Patrick Finkbeiner said. “I haven’t seen one like this in years.”

Trees are available for purchase until this weekend and vary in price depending on the tree and height. The sale includes three types of trees, the douglas fir, the nordman fir and the noble fir.

The douglas fir ranges from $55-75 and is available from 5 to 8 feet. The nordman fir starts at $60-120 and ranges from 5 to 9 feet. Finally, the noble fir prices at $55-180 and is in sizes 4 to 10 feet tall.

Trimming and loading for the trees is made available free, while delivery costs $25. On the other hand, pick up for the trees will take place Saturday Dec. 6 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the parking lot, next to RackSpace.

“It’s weird and original, like no one sells Christmas trees like that.” freshman Diego Garcia said.
