Orchestra prepares for solo and ensemble

This year orchestra’s solo and ensemble will be welcoming 13 freshmen to play with the returning students. Each student has a little over a month to practice before the event next weekend at Johnson High School.
“I want to have more of a responsibility to do well and not mess up,” said freshman Victoria Day.
The students will go one at a time to perform their solos, which they chose, and get judged on how they do. They will have a piano accompany them when they play.
During January, they work on intonation, rhythm, and finger placement.
“It feels pretty great to play as a varsity player because I get to show what Roosevelt has to offer,” said senior Sandy Echevarria.
Each person who particpates in the contest Jan. 31 will be judged on how well they stay in tune, follow bowing patterns, and stay on rhythm.
