Each time you walk into Mr. Forest Hawthorn’s U.S History class, it’s filled with people chattering and music. You’ll see that there is a word of the day and warm up on the board everyday.

“I’ve only been working at Roosevelt since the start of this year school year and celebrating my 30th birthday with my students,” Hawthorn said.

The A&M alum graduated from MacArthur and is straight forward when he wants to get his class’s attention.  He’s never in a bad mood.

“I love how we talk about all the different wars and the different events that lead up to each war,” Said junior Michael Torres.

He arranges his desks to give his students the chance to meet new people and make friends. When the desks are in groups they get to sit where they want as long as they interact with students they don’t usually talk to.

“I try to build a bridge with my students to build a relationship with them,” Hawthorn said.

He goes around helping his students as long as they are actually doing their work. He lets students listen to music as long as it’s not too loud and they keep one ear bud out so they can still hear what is being said.

“I want my students to feel like they’re  valued and like they’re worth something,” he said.

Outside of school he likes to build motorcycles, play a little guitar and travel with his wife. He loves taking apart  motorcycles and remaking them to where they’re better. He has his own little shop at his house to where he can work on them all the time if he wanted to.
