Track earns multiple medals at opener

The boys and girls track teams had their season opener Feb. 20 at the North East Invitational Track meet at Heroes Stadium, earning multiple awards.

Ayleen Carrizales won first place in the varsity girls high jump with a jump of 5’2″. Tamia Laury finished second in the JV girls 400 meter dash with a time of 1:06. Also, the JV 4×100 relay team consisting of Tamia Laury, Gabrielle Redix, Alexis Frances and Melanie Monet finished second.

Varsity boys medalists included: 4 x 100 and 4 x 200 relay teams whose members are Josh Morgan, Kendall McCree, Devin Mendez, Bryson Carroll, and Israel Sanchez; Bryson Carroll in the 100 meters; Israel Sanchez in the Long Jump; and Wyatt Royder competing in the Pole Vault.

JV boys medalists included: 4 x 100 and 4 x 200 relay whose members are De’vion Dears, Manny Crawley, Nathaniel Everett, Leroy Giles. The team of Stephon Barclift, Manny Crawley, Christian Ritter, and Cory Waddell also medaled in the 4×400 for the JV squad; Leroy Giles in the 200 meters and the Long Jump; Christian Ritter in the 400 meter; and Nathaniel Everett won the first place medal in the JV High Jump.

The Varsity Team which finished fifth, and the JV team which placed third against the JV competitors.

The boys and girls teams compete today at the Northside Invitational at 4:30.
