On May 1, students participated in a Relay For Life event to help raise awareness for cancer.

The event was held at Elite Soccer Academy and included 58 teams, two which were from our campus.

One week earlier, students painted the campus purple to see who team could bring the most spirit and awareness.

The Roosevelt Riders painted the campus purple one week before the event, to show support.

The Roosevelt Riders and Team Roosevelt Hosa were made up of students from ETA and Health Science.

“It was very great, I felt inspired to be with them and support them,” David Baylon said.

Roosevelt also had the largest number students that participated from our district.

After participating in several activities, teams camped throughout night and were able to become part of millions who support the American Cancer Society every year.

Both teams collected over $5,000 toward cancer research.

Money collected by the two teams also rewarded Roosevelt with it’s fourth Purple Level Award.

“I’ve been very passionate about it, it’s a lot of fun and it’s a great opportunity for students,” Marilyn Rocamontes said.
