On Thursday Nov. 12 varsity quarterback Bryson Carroll was visited by former Dallas Cowboy linebacker Dat Nguyen and was presented with ESPN San Antonio’s student Athlete of the week award. Carroll’s latest award came a week after defeating the Lee Volunteers 83 to 65 in a stunning show of offense that had fans on the edge of their seats the entire game.

Roosevelt completed the game with a total of 905 yards of offense. This impressive statistic drew a lot of attention on social media and before the night was over it was confirmed that the Rough Riders had broken the state record for offensive yards in a game that was only a week old, and had also placed for the fifth most yards in a game in the nation. Carroll was responsible for 569 of the team’s yards and 10 of the team’s touchdowns.

As Nguyen presented Carroll with his award, he also commended the rest of the varsity team on their performance against Lee, saying that despite missing the playoffs this season, it would be important for them to continue their hard work into the off season and prepare to come back even stronger next season.
