Never Give Up On Your ‘Joy’

Based off the life of the real Joy Mangano, the first ‘non-famous’ face to try sell their own product, let alone trying to sell anything on the shopping network QVC.

Stuck as a flight attendant, Joy tries finding herself through a house of argumentative divorced parents, two young children, and her ex husband living in the basement. Joy Mangano’s life is none of the ordinary. Covering her journey to how she became an overnight success on QVC, attempting to sell her own designed ‘self wringing mop.’

Joy is played by Jennifer Lawrence, who, in many opinions, put her sense of interest into the movie. Along with other well-known Actors like Robert De Niro, Mangano’s father, and Bradley Cooper as Neil Walker, the executive at QVC. David O. Russell, the director and producer of the film has done other well acclaimed films with Jennifer Lawrence like Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle.

After doing research about the real Joy Mangano I’ve found that the movie isn’t a hundred percent biography, Russell threw in a few attention-catching parts to the plot like Joy’s jealous half-sister, and her bedridden mother. Although the characters were fictional, they were combinations of people Mangano knew along the way.

What truthfully made the film to me was her self confidence that was shown, and though having been married and divorced with two children that your chance to change your career is over that it really isn’t, and it’s never too late. And the perfect woman to do that was Lawrence as Joy Mangando.

The film is still showing in theaters, receiving positive reviews from IMDb, 6.5/10, a 60 percent from Rotten tomatoes, and a 56 percent from Metacritic.
