Phan placed 30th out of 349 other competitors at the local online competition Dec. 9.

“In order to make state you’d have to be in the top 10 percent which is placing nothing over 34,” Phan said.

As others competed Junior Yadira Terrazas President of HOSA cheered them on.

“I am incredibly proud of their hard work and I have high hope one or all of us will make it to nationals,” Terrazas said. Terrazas did not compete in December’s online competition, because she qualified  to jump straight into regional competition on Jan. 29 in Austin.

Senior Reese Brinkley placed sixth out of 349 in Health Care Issues.

“I listen to NPR on the radio to keep up with the news in the morning and the afternoon,” Brinkley said.

In total, there are two EMT teams going to the next round:  seniors Nhi Le and Phillip Holguin, and Adrian Banda and Robert Zavala. Senior CNAs Estefania Galindo and Julisa Carrasco also qualified.

In the Home Health Aid category, seniors Kayla Armendariz, Valeria Sotelo, and Shane Ibay are advancing.

Junior Janet Moreno is running for HOSA Area 1 officer position and qualified in officer exam high enough to be considered as a candidate.

Two students qualify directly to State competition in Healthcare Issues exam. Linh Phan and Reese Brinkley.

If HOSA students pass state they will head to Nashville for nationals.
