Students place in PTA Reflections

The ceremony for PTA Reflections was Jan. 21. Our campus had more than 50 students enter, and three of these placed first at District, qualifying for State Competition in the Visual Arts, Photography and Film Production categories.

Sophomore Thanh (Tammy) Nguyen was the winner of visual arts category.

This category focused on the participant’s drawing abilities. Either drawings, paintings or computer-generated artwork pieces were accepted.

“I felt very happy, I didn’t know I was going to go to state,” Nguyen said. “My music was my inspiration.”

Next up is Photography, which was won by Natalie Garcia.

The Photography category challenged participants’ photography skills. Submitters also had a variety of photographs able to submit, from colored single photos to black and white panoramas.

“Well, there was perfect lighting in my room, my ukulele was laying right there on my bed and I took a picture and bam it looked beautiful,” Garcia said.

Lastly, is Film Production, awarded to Sergio Salazar.

Film Production was all about videos. It focused on small films which could not exceed five minutes. Various types of submissions including animation, narrative, documentary and experimental were a few of many categories that students had to pick from.

Considering this year’s theme, “Let Your Imagination Fly,” Salazar’s video was made with sophomore Harrison Wissel-Littmann.

“I felt like it was a really good experience; it was just a great time,” Wissel-Littmann said. “I thought the final product was a good collaboration between everyone and so did the judges.”

Next, these winners at District will go on to State Competition for the same categories they placed in.
There, they will compete and try on achieving the next level of the competition, national, at which our campus also represented last year.
