Carey Minchew is a one of a few who get to celebrate their birthday every four years, being a leapling.

Despite the fact of being of being born on February 29, the loud, talkative and friendly science teacher says he feels no different nor does he ever miss out on his birthday celebration.

“I have a birth month, I celebrate it then and I expect presents all month,” Minchew said.

Although some years Minchew does find it annoying with all the questions about his birthday, most of the times it makes him laugh when students and others ask about his birthday celebrations.

“It’s kind of fun, I love when people ask how old I am,” he said.

Moreover, Minchew is a very interesting person. Outside of school, he enjoys attending renaissance festivals, and is a director for a summer camp during that time.

Michew also enjoys meeting new people as communication is key, especially with his students.

“I’m hilarious and they love me,” Minchew said.

Something worth noting is Minchew’s aspiration to become a teacher. As a young person, his experiences at school were what drove him to do so.

“When I was young, teachers thought I was slow and boring all the way through high school, and I promised that would never let that happen to other students,” he said.

Today, students of Minchew show thanks by being appreciative to him.

“I think he’s a pretty good teacher because he can relate to his students,” student Sarah Baker said. “He’s hilarious and we love him,” she added.
