With a new school year taking off, football isn’t the only sport breaking sweat to put some mean scores up on the board. The tennis team has been in training since early July and are already halfway through their fall season.

“We’ve got the varsity team to start practicing in the summer in July, we are just looking at little constant improvements everyday,”

assistant tennis Coach Derek Noriskin said. “We kept it very focused and disciplined, working on strategy and just looking for a strong work ethic from our team.”

As the school year began, showers and storms have been affecting the San Antonio area making it hard to hit the tennis courts, but that hasn’t stopped them from swinging at the racket. Some players have played up to seven matches already while other players prepare for their first tournament ever.

“I want it to go good without any problems, freshman tennis player, Antuan Williams said. “I don’t want to lose, I want to win.”

Their next match is Sept. 23 at Blossom Athletic Center.
