Teachers get new technology

Sometimes when you’re sitting in the back of the classroom it can pretty difficult to hear a teacher speak, so this year NEISD has introduced teachers to new lanyard microphones that will allow students to hear every word.

“NEISD made the decision based on learning for the students,” Instructional Technology Specialist Amir Burton said.  “A sound system amplifies the teacher’s voice, so there’s no dead spots in the class room, so if students choose to sit in the back of the classroom or in the front of the room they’re going to hear the same sound and that’s how the system is designed. It also allows the teacher to speak in a normal speaking tone of voice, and the entire classroom can hear.”

This system benefits both teachers and students, so children who listen better learn more.

“Everyone could hear me better now,” Spanish teacher Lisa Alanis said.”Students respect me more, when students see a teacher use technology they respect them more because they use technology as well. Technology has definitely made my job more fun.”

Not all students appreciate the change, though.

“I feel like the microphones that teachers hang around their neck are uneccessary,” junior Carla Sanchez said. “Why should they use them if the classrooms are small, and students could hear them?”
