With December already kicking off, that means decorations, presents and gingerbread houses. Every year there’s a DATA gingerbread house event where student form groups to decorate and build to give back to the people who are struggling in this time of season. Students enter for free but have to bring canned foods in exchange for candies for their houses.

“This is my second year, the first time I did it was freshman year, we only had t

o bring canned foods to donate for candy as decoration for the gingerbread house. We don’t have a game plan yet, we will most likely go with the flow,” junior, Ana Linares said.

The even took place at 4:30 p.m. in the cafeteria on Dec. 2. From freshman, sophomores, juniors and seniors, children even got a chance to decorate a house.

Winners get little prize boxes, and there were three winners.

Gingerbread house winners were Leah Brown, Cristina Villegas, Elizabeth Madison, Lesley Rico and Donovan Soza, forming the group of Gingerlicious. The second team was made up of students, Caroline Savell and Measie Ulbert, also known as the Lil drummer boys. The last and final team consisted of students, Brooke Redding, Malia Barnes, Carmen Centeno, Megan Burciaga and Tyler Haug went by the team name, Crazy.

Winners or not, the students had a good time being creative.

“This was my second time building a house and my ideas are always sporadic, we just aim to make it colorful and cute,” junior, Janet Thongkam said.
