Robotics club advances onto second round

The robotics placed sixth in their first meet, sending the hard-working team to their second competition that was held on Saturday, Jan. 14. Having made modifications to their robot, the club was ready to take on their opponents.

Driver Nicholas Rokey teams up with Sarah Poupart and Kristian Plummer to score points.

Just like last time, the objectives were simple. The robot had to hit the beacons, lift a ball off of its stand, and launch smaller balls into a basket. The team’s last driver, junior Nicholas Rokey, did very well during the first meet, and he continued to show his expertise as he drove the robot for a second time. He is one of the builders of the team, and has worked on the robot along with juniors Jakob Beauchamp and Kristian Plummer.

“Concentrating on the competition was easy,” said Plummer, “But having three voices with different plans was a little different. Having to make on the spot decisions to do the best for our team was the plan.”

The robotics team placed third out of fourteen, having been in first throughout the first three-quarters of the competition. Due to a malfunction, their place fell down to third, but the team is still proud of themselves. They’ve worked really hard to secure their place in the competition thus far, and will continue to do so in the coming events.
