Varsity Boys Win Nail Biter against Mac

On Friday Feb. 2 Roosevelt played MacArthur and ended up with their second district win.

They boys came ready to play, and though MacArthur made quick movements to catch up, the team held the upper hand.

At least until the last minute of the first quarter, which ended with a three by Mac making the score 17-15, with the Riders down 2.

Senior Angelo Smith #5 scored the majority of the mid-range shots for the first round and occasion threes were made.

“The team was riled up and ready to play,” Smith said.

With five minutes left in the second quarter Smith got a steal and dunks, making the score ‘Velt 28 MacArthur 20.

In the third quarter Macarthur came with the energy for a comeback, starting off with two threes at the beginning of the quarter.

Osiris Watson had a steal at the beginning of the fourth round.

“Our energy brought the team a win,” Watson said.

Free throw shots by put Roosevelt at 51 points, we were down one to Macarthur’s 52 in the fourth quarter near the very end, with 3.9 seconds left.

In the end, a last second shot put the boys up 54-52.
