Students take flight for Big Art Day

Art teacher S’Lena Hinojosa and her Pre-AP students created an interactive sculpture, “Let Your Imagination Take Flight,”  for “Big Art Day” on March 1.

Each year, Big Art Day kicks off the start of Youth Art Month in Texas. Schools are encouraged to plan activities that bring art awareness to the campus and community.

“This year, I wanted my classes to work collaboratively to create an art project that would allow others to become part of the actual artwork,” Hinojosa said. “We hope that by taking pictures and sharing them with others and through social media, we can continue to spread art awareness beyond our campus.”

“Let Your Imagination Take Flight was inspired by the interactive sculpture, “Wings of Mexico” by contemporary artist, Jorge Marin.

Senior, Jamarcus Clerkley.

Since everyone worked together, they were able to complete mural in about three days.

“It was fun working on this because classes got to collaborate,” junior, Kaliyah Rogers said.
