Senior Fernanda Juarez showed everyone that hard work and dedication pay off in the long run when she ran at regionals Oct. 22.  For the first time in four year,s that the Roosevelt cross country team has now succeeded in sending at least one of their athletes to regionals.

“Running at Corpus Christi was very satisfying, because I was finally able to run with the top dogs and actually beat people that had previous better times than me,” Juarez said. “It was a bitter sweet ending since this is my senior year.”

Before advancing to Regionals the senior ran a 5k in 22.13 and placed 10th overall out of the high school cross country runners at district 27-6A.

“After the meet she backed away from hard workouts by mainly running on the treadmill, using the elliptical, doing recovery runs, and icing her muscles after every practice,” Cross Country Coach Corey Bedell said.
