Seniors to hold inaugural class movie night

By Marcos Perales | Staff Writer |

On Friday, Jan. 10, the senior class is having their movie night. The movie night will take place here on campus in the courtyard, or if needed in the auditorium. This day will be seniors only. That means no families or lower class men. This is the first time the senior class organized something like this, with the purpose of bringing the class of 2020 closer together and raising funds for better merchandise and other events for the future.

The movie that will be showing at the movie night is still to be decided.

“We’ll probably make a poll to see what movie we’re going to show, so it’ll probably be something brand new that’s out, or something really popular, or something that’s in season because it’s supposed to happen the Friday after break,” secretary Paola Munguia said.

Further details like the ticket prices, food, and movie choice will be discussed among the officers. The poll will take place in the TR presidential Instagram account. Once the polls are open, seniors will be free to vote on the movie.

The credit for the idea of movie night idea goes to a middle school here in NEISD. Krueger Middle School has had movie nights in the past, and the officers decided to incorporate this idea here at Roosevelt. Since high schools generally have more students than middle schools, this event will be a lot bigger than the ones that have taken place at middle schools. Potentially over 600 students from Roosevelt will attend this gathering. That’s how many students are in the senior class..

“I told the council members this could be a good idea and they all said this is a good idea and then the whole thing morphed into this idea, this thing that we are going to do,” class president Nicholas Ostroski said. “There will be more movie nights in the future. The idea was once a month and I think it’s going to go great.” More information about this event will be present in the future on the 2020 class Instagram account.
