Recently people in San Antonio have been in debate on whether or not to give gays, bisexuals, lesbians, transgenders, and veteran status equal rights as other civilians.

On Thursday, September fifth, at the San Antonio City Council chambers mayor Julian Castro passed the Non Discrimination Ordinance vote. “Nobody will be a second-class citizen in San Antonio. Here there will be basic fairness and common decency.” Mayor Julian Castro says after the vote.

Since mid-August over 1,500 people had gone to the dais at City Hall and protested support for and against the ordinance that got national attention. When the vote was over red clad supporters and the LGBT group walked victoriously out of the council chambers waving their rainbow flags with pride. “This city is important and it’s special because of its diversity, its diversity of opinions, its diversity of people, and its richness and love for evey San Antonian, and that love is not exclusive it is inclusive.” says District 4 councilman Rey Salana. Since Thursday the LGBT have had equal rights and can not be discriminated against.“I don’t want to die unequal. You have the chance to make our San Antonio equal, for me, for my children, and for my grandchildren.” says Julie Posson.

Only time will tell if other cities will follow our lead. The LGBT’s fight was payed off when the NDO vote was passed.
