Have you heard of Botflies? These flies are the most disturbing than any flies I’ve ever heard of! Botflies or the Oestridae are a “breed” of flies that are more famous for their larvae then their adult form (That’s kind of funny if you ask me). Botflies lay their eggs under the wings of mosquitos and houseflies. So when the Mosquito goes and bites an animal the eggs will fall of the mosquito or housefly and burrow into the animal. After the eggs hatch the maggots (larvae) will start to eat the inside of the animal! Occasionally the maggot will come out of the skin if the animal tries to pull out the maggot (I forgot to say the maggots are covered in spikes or spines) the spikes will prevent that from happening. If the animal manages to pull out he maggot it is likely one of the spines came off and the animal will have a wicked bad infection. Botfly larvae will live inside the host until adulthood (I personally don’t know how they get out of the body). Botflies are really fuzzy flies some even look like bees! Botflies are found in warm damp climates they even live in southern U.S.! Botflies are commonly found in Mexico and South America. Botflies are very disturbing insects if you look up “Botflies” on google images prepare to gag, those things are gross they leave some pretty disturbing “marks” on you like holes and big bumps with holes. Botfly maggots have been found in some pretty disturbing places like under or in the eyes! Fun Fact! People actually relish maggots as seasoned luxuries that contain high levels of proteins, fat and some minerals (Pretty gross huh?). You now know about botflies and you’re probably scared of Mosquitos, Houseflies, and Horseflies now. Take my warning seriously though don’t look up botfly maggots on google images it will haunt your nightmares. Anywho I hope you enjoyed my article and thanks for spending some time reading this!
