Brissa Rodriguez, an 8th grader at Bradley middle school, volunteers at ASPCA. ASPCA stands for American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. They believe that animals are entitled to caring treatment that the hands of humans provide. All animals are protected under the law. When Brissa is at the ASPCA, (which is one to two days a week, working from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m.) she is taking care of the animals, helping clean up, feeding the animals, and bathing them. “I know its a lot of work and four hours of work, but when your doing something you enjoy, it doesn’t feel like work” Brissa explained.

Animal shelters evolved from pounds. Pounds were used in colonial towns to group up and hold lost animals that could be redeemed from the pound owner for a fee. The ASPCA is very dedicated to to fulfilling the ASPCA mission through nonviolent approaches. They are also the first humane organization to be guaranteed legal authority to search about and make arrests for crimes against animals. ASPCA’s mission: “To provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States.”

Brissa started volunteering at the ASPCA because she loves animals and bathing them. “Working at the ASPCA is so much fun and I love getting to see the animals and knowing they have us to depend on” Brissa exclaimed in her interview. “It feels pretty good knowing the animals love all the workers there.” The ASPCA is very dedicated to their furry friends, and so is Brissa.
