“I was swinging on a tire swing when my hands slipped off, my upper body fell back, and my head dragged along the ground, kicking up dirt that looked like smoke.”

In the summer of 1992, eleven year old, Eric Lerma was at Garner State Park with his mother and father, playing on a tire swing. Presently thirty-two, he tells about a very embarrassing experience he endured on that once pleasant day.

“His head is on fire!”

“It was me, my parents, a couple they met along with their two kids, a boy and a girl.” He says. “I was swinging on a tire swing when my hands slipped off [the rope], my upper body fell back, and my head dragged along the ground, kicking up dirt that looked like smoke.” The most embarrassing moment about the whole scene was the fact that the little girl ran to his parents yelling, “His head is on fire!” The worst part of it all? His parents did not help him but rather laughed at him and made fun of him.

We asked if he has any advice for kids swinging on tire ropes in the future. Here’s what he had to say;

“Don’t let go of the rope.”
