A Trip to Pike’s Peak
When my mom was 15 she went to Pike’s Peak, Illinois with her family, which consisted of her brother Richard, her sister Michelle, and her parents. The drive spanned several days, as it was from Red Bud, Illinois to Pike’s Peak in Colorado. At the time, she was 15, her brother was 20, and her sister was 5. Because of the location, the campsite had to be on a slope.
On the drive to Pike’s Peak it was windy and narrow, making her family nervous. They finally arrived, after what she described as a long and boring drive. As soon as they arrived, they had to set up the tent an prepare to sleep. Sleeping proved troublesome because they all had to face the same direction. In the morning they woke up and began to hike. She described the hill as being “rocky and different”, as well as explaining how she “really enjoyed climbing”. Although it was warm outside, the top of the peak was covered with snow. The highlight of the trip proved to be near the top of the peak when she looked down on a rainbow below her in the valley.
Overall, the trip proved to be an interesting experience going to a new and unfamiliar place. My mom enjoyed the trip, and left with a memorable experience that will stay with her.
