My Chemical Romance Saves Lives

Since the early 2000’s, rumors have  spread about the alternative rock band, My Chemical Romance (MCR). They have often been referred to as an “emo suicide cult.”

Frank Iero, rhythm guitarist for the band, has spoken out about use of the word “emo” saying that it’s just another stupid label for people to put on you. He has said on many occasions that being yourself is important, no matter the reaction you get.

I think MCR is an amazing band. Each member, especially Frank, has inspired me to no end. My Chem is a group of amazing guys who write awesome lyrics, and play their hearts out onstage.

The accusations of suicidal themes and lyrics in their songs are ridiculous. Although the band has had some dark themes in the past, overall, their songs display a message of self-empowerment and independence.

Frontman, Gerard Way, went through a period of drug and alcohol addiction in his early twenties, and said that the band saved him multiple times. His brother, Mikey, bassist in band the experienced the same thing.

Early on, they said that was their goal. To save lives. Even when they got famous, they continued to say that saving lives was what it was all about.

Some examples of motivational lyrics are:

“I am not afraid to keep on living, I am not afraid to walk this world alone”

“Never let them take the light behind your eyes”

“I just wanted you to know that the world is ugly, but you’re beautiful to me”

“Never fade in the dark, just remember you will always burn as bright”

“For every one of us, there’s an army of them, but you’ll never fight alone”

MCR is always there for me when I’m feeling down. Listening to them is like a hug from a friend.

So, no matter what others say, I will always love and support My Chemical Romance.
