Driscoll students were treated to a day of fitness activities and information on Friday, November 16th. We had visitors from the USAF, US Navy, YMCA, CrossFit, Soccer trainers and a coach from the SA Scorpions, Trinity volleyball coaches, and even the Ballapeno from the SA Missions made an appearance.
Students enjoyed activities ranging from soccer drills, Navy divers fitness, flag football, Zumba, yoga, and basketball. Nutrition information was also covered in classrooms and we even broke out the Xbox Kinetic and had a dance off in the MPR. It was great fun and thanks to all the teachers, guests speakers and performers that showed up and made this day a huge success, especially our Administrators!
On Wednesday night, Driscoll Middle School celebrated its’ 20 year anniversary.
The night was filled with great music from our band, under the direction of Mr Gonzalez and Ms Condit, and they kept our crowd entertained. The Concert Band also played in the cafeteria, as food from Las Palapas was fed to the crowd.
The ceremony started at 6pm in the Defender Gym and was led by our Principal, Ms Aceves-Torres. She introduced our guest speakers: Melinda Navarro from the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Michael Chadwell, a 6th grader from the first 6th grade class in 1992, and Shirley Kearns, our first Principal in 1992. Also in attendance, our Superintendent-Dr Brian Gottardy, Associate Superintendent Dan Villarreal, and three former principals: Shirley Kearns, Dr. Kaye Fenn , and Peter Martinez. All our guest speakers gave great speeches.
Ms Aceves-Torres also recognized our 20 Year Honorees/Teachers: Margaret Erickson, Rosa Medina, Jeff Meyer, Kim Post, and Sharon Strahan.
The evening concluded with the unveiling of our Memory Wall and the Silent Auction in the cafeteria.
Thanks to all that attended our ceremony!
