The Garner Middle School yearbook program was awarded top honors from the American Scholastic Journalist Association (ASJ) for their work. The 2011 yearbook, titled “Generation Garner” took first place in the Intermediate Schools division with enrollment between 500-1000. This is the first time the Garner yearbook program has been honored with such an award. The American Scholastic Association reviews hundreds of yearbooks from across the nation each year and scores each book on a point system to determine places.
“The students worked very hard to capture the spirit of Garner’s 50th anniversary. The students used old yearbooks to help show the history of the school and we included pictures of parents, aunts, uncles, and older siblings of current students to show how Garner has developed generations of students in our community,” says yearbook adviser Amanda White. “I am so proud of their accomplishments.”
