Election Year. Everyone looks forward to seeing, hearing, and choosing new candidates for our country’s president. This year’s main candidates were Governor Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama. Each is part of a political party. Romney is a Republican, and President Obama is a Democrat. People all over our country voted who they would like to see in office.

You are officially allowed to vote when you are 18, but students all over NEISD got a chance for their voice to be heard. About 31,012 students (K-8) in the district voted. The total came out 10,550 votes for Governor Romney, and 18,140 votes for President Obama. Emma Cote (8) says, “I voted for Mitt Romney. Not because I like him, but because I don’t like Obama and his ideas.”

The National election was very close. President Obama won, but only because of the electoral votes. Our candidates were almost tied for popular vote. President Obama had 50.34% of the popular votes, and Governor Romney had 48.10%. Florida was never official, so not all the votes were counted.

Overall, this presidential race was very close. These candidates worked hard, and it looks like President Obama will have one more 4 – Year Term. Skye Palmer (7) told me that our Country and Year will be off to a great start, “because four years isn’t enough time to do something and Obama will help make our country better!”
