Cans Film Festival

The 1st Annual Garner Middle School Cans Film Festival will be held on April 15, 2016 from 3:30pm – 5pm. Admission to the festival is two cans of food. The theme of the festival is “Heroes!” and each student will choose one out of four categories to submit their videos: CG, stop-motion, live action or music video. Each team will create either an individual movie, or a group of up to four people. Each movie will last 30-120 seconds long with a title page at the beginning and credits page at the end. The deadline to submit will be April 1, 2016. When you are ready to submit your video, save it to a memory stick and give it to Mrs. Cooper, Ms. Mosqueda, or Mrs. Pitman.

Each team will choose their own hero theme. It has to be made up and original, not from any movie or comic that has already been created by someone else. Be creative with your characters and setting. You can use any material needed from house or school. Don’t forget to put names in the credits. If your video is short but meets criteria, you can put bloopers with the credits at the end. Has to be hero themed. Anything else will be denied and not used during the festival. We will have trophies/medals for the movies that win first, second, third place in their category, and a first place overall trophy/medal. I can not wait to see all the talent that is in store for our first film festival.

Once Upon a Dream

By: Jada

One man,

One dream,

One destiny.

A nation united for a plan to change humanity.

A plan to end the unjust laws against racism,

once upon a Dream.

Why was racism ever an issue?

Why couldn’t it have been solved years ago among 2 common rivals?

Why must it continue to preserve through the shadows?

Why does the color of your skin define you?

Black or White, why must we fight?

Why did we ever have to?

Martin Luther King’s dream,

Our future,

Our fight!

Snape Death

By: Vyolette

In the movie Harry Potter, almost everyone’s favorite character dies an intense death. Today, Severus Snape, Alan Rickman the actor that plays Severus, died at the age of 69. He had been battling pancreatic cancer and lost the fight. This is an especially sad death for his newer generation of fans, the fans of Harry Potter books, including my sister.  The actor is leaving behind heartbroken family, friends, and fans. Although Alan never won an Oscar, he did win a BAFTA Award for supporting actor in “Robin Hood” and another 3 awards for his characters in the movies “Sense and Sensibility” and “Truly Madly Deeply”. Richman was born in 1946 to a working class family in the west of London. He was interested in acting, studied graphic design in college and at one point opened a graphic design studio with his friends. Alan Richman fans lost a part of their hearts today Thursday, January 14th, 2016. In remembrance of this amazing and influential actor, lets all pick up our favorite Harry Potter book or movie and really appreciate the work of an actor transforming a character from page to reel.
