GOLF CHAMPION

GOLD MEDALIST AT GARNER FOR THE FIRST TIME IN OVER 5 YEARS

By: Emma

Garner girls golf hasn’t placed in the NEISD school district tournament in over 5 years, and they’ve had a golf team for over 10 years. Garner doesn’t always have a girls golf team because recently girls don’t want to try out. However, some girls were open to new ideas and gave golf a try. They didn’t even have to try out! This year we had several female students participate in golf.

“I was forced to do it by my peers,” Jalicia says. She started the season three practices before the district tournament. She turned out to be a natural. Jalicia doesn’t really plan on continuing golf in high school, and probably not next year unless necessary. Some of the other players like Grace L. plan on continuing golf next year and possibly high school. Jalicia says, “I sucked at it the first day, but I got better on the second practice.” Like she said, it wasn’t easy, but she and her teammates worked hard and did their best. She ended up placing 3rd out of over twenty other students from across the district. She rocked it and helped Garner’s team get 1st place overall. Good job girls on representing Garner and stepping up to the challenge.
