Cans Film Festival

The 1st Annual Garner Middle School Cans Film Festival will be held on April 15, 2016 from 3:30pm – 5pm. Admission to the festival is two cans of food. The theme of the festival is “Heroes!” and each student will choose one out of four categories to submit their videos: CG, stop-motion, live action or music video. Each team will create either an individual movie, or a group of up to four people. Each movie will last 30-120 seconds long with a title page at the beginning and credits page at the end. The deadline to submit will be April 1, 2016. When you are ready to submit your video, save it to a memory stick and give it to Mrs. Cooper, Ms. Mosqueda, or Mrs. Pitman.

Each team will choose their own hero theme. It has to be made up and original, not from any movie or comic that has already been created by someone else. Be creative with your characters and setting. You can use any material needed from house or school. Don’t forget to put names in the credits. If your video is short but meets criteria, you can put bloopers with the credits at the end. Has to be hero themed. Anything else will be denied and not used during the festival. We will have trophies/medals for the movies that win first, second, third place in their category, and a first place overall trophy/medal. I can not wait to see all the talent that is in store for our first film festival.

New Art Teacher

New Art Teacher

Lots of people don’t know her but she is the new art teacher, and I thought we should give her a big Garner welcome and make her feel like she is at home. I took some time with Ms. Mosqueda to ask her what are some fun things to know about her. “Ms.Mosqueda, what college did you go to, what year, and what was your degree?” “I attended several schools during my higher academic persuits, both community colleges and different universities. I graduated in 2005 from Texas State University with my Bachelors degree in Fine Art.” We know you’re a big fan of art, but is there anything else you would like to do instead of art?” “ I have many passions. I love animals, especially my dog She-Bop!, travelling, riding my bike, and of course making and seeing artworks from all different levels and different cultures.” She is off 5th period if you want to talk to her about any creative things and is here after school till 4:30 pm everyday.

Ms. Mosqueda came to Garner for many reasons but here are a few. “I loved the way my coworkers made me feel welcome and help me out in anyway they can. I also loved the outdoor campus. There are so many opportunities to see and feel the sunlight throughout our day and that was important to me. Meeting the students has been a positive experience and I love learning about them and watching them become amazing, creative people. My most recent campus was in a rural setting, and I am much more comfortable in an urban setting here at Garner.”

She has lived in many places but then she came to San Antonio to start a new life. “ I have lived in many different cities. I grew up in Toledo, Ohio and loved experiencing the different seasons, fall is my favorite. I lived in Houston, Texas and got to experience all the different neighborhoods and art museums it has to offer. Two of my favorite places to live in were Florence, Italy and Cuernavaca, Mexico. I loved the food, culture, art, and people of both areas.” Well we thank you for the time and if you guys want to see her, come on down to room 401 for more information and creative experiences.

Mr. Gaffney

By Alexis

Today I had the opportunity to interview one of my favorite teachers. He is my favorite teacher because he made history easy to learn. He is a great teacher that loves his students like they are his kids. Unfortunately, I don’t have him this year but I see him every morning and every day. Sometimes I go out of my way just to visit with him. He teaches Texas History for 7th grade. He also wants to run for president when he 1. Gets enough money to do it and 2. He has to wait till he’s like 35. His name is Mr. Gaffney, and he has been teaching for 5 years. He started teaching because one of his high school teachers was a positive influence on his life. He choose to teach history because he loves to talk about the past. He has an 18 month old daughter named Charlee. If there was one thing he could change about this school, it is to get into the new building faster. Mr. Gaffney would like others to know that he collects avid baseball cards. Mostly, he wants to share his love for Garner, and especially his love for working with his coworkers.
