Soccer teams start up districts

This Friday, the 4th of February, the boy’s and girl’s soccer teams are playing their first 2011 district game against MacArthur. Coming out strong in their pre-district games and tournaments, both the boys and girls are confident in coming out with a win.

“With a lot of pre-district games helps us see what our weaknesses are and what is needed to be worked on,” sophomore varsity soccer player Rudy Apodaca said, adding,”I think we are a stronger team than last year, so we will do better than last year.”

Regarding to the girl’s team, sophomore varsity soccer player Grace Anne McGinnis said, “We played some super hard teams, but we held our own.”

Twelve or so girls are seniors this year and are going to want to end their high school soccer career with an ultimate high.

“We have twelve or thirteen seniors leaving, and they’re going to play really hard since it’s their last year,” McGinnis said.

Mac is a team to beat so it won’t be an easy game. In addition, things will be much more difficult for both teams due to the harsh cold weather.

“We’re planning on beating them. They seam like a pretty good team and hard to beat, and since it’s cold outside it will be harder,” McGinnis said.

Soccer Coach Kara Stracener is taking some extra pre-cautions for the game.

“I’m getting lots of clothes to wear and foot warmers and hand warmers,” Stracener said, adding, “I’m just excited to start, it’s been a long pre-season.”

The boys are pumped and ready to play Mac and conquer in districts this year, Apodaca  letting it be known.

“We are excited to beat down MacArthur. We [have confidence] that we are going to win.”
