Breaking a leg at UIL: theatre dominates

Junior Maddie Cooper and other Johnson UIL theater members prepare to dominate their competition.

The UIL One-Act team clinched the Zone One Act Play championship at MacArthur High School.

“The Johnson Theatre’s Department entry Cripple of Inishmaan advanced in the Zone One Act Play contest, making it to district competition,” theatre director Suzanne Martin said.

Many of the Johnson cast took awards during zone competition, including the Best Actor award for senior Hunter Wulff.

“There was All-Star cast that includes Jessica Kowalski, Tyler Smith, and Mason Lucero,” Wulff said, “Honorable Mention All-Star cast includes Bayley Braverman, Londa Ploetz, and Madi Cooper. Best Technician was Darbi Broadhead,” Martin said.

The UIL contest for district was also held at MacArthur where Johnson is able to advance farther along in competition.

“Last night was district competition, [we] again advanced to area at Brennan High School,” Martin said.

The Johnson cast earned awards during district competition.

“All-Star cast is Mason Lucero and Hunter Wulff, Honorable Mention All-Star cast is Tyler Smith, Jessica Kowalski, and Best Technician is Victoria Copeland,” Martin said.

UIL One Act will be competing at area on April 14th at Brennan High School on the Northside.

“We’re thrilled with the results,” Martin said, “It’s a result of hardwork, teamwork, and selflessness.  I’m really proud of them.”
