With the Johnson softball season just starting up, the team has played their first game against South San and won 20-1, and is in preparation for their first tournament of the year at college station. This tournament the Jags are playing in is a three day, 64 team tournament against teams from across Texas
“We’re all looking forward to playing in the tournament, and of course, bonding with our teammates,” sophomore Lindsey Angelico said.
The Jaguars opening game of the year was against the South San Antonio Bobcats and the Jags walked out with a win by a score of 20-1. The team was led by senior pitcher Melanie Roe who only gave up one hit in the game. Aside from a great pitching performance, the Jag’s bats came alive as well, which allowed them to get to the 20-run mark.
“It was a good game to start our season off on, it definitely got our confidence up as a team” sophomore Nicole Urbanik said.
The Bryan tournament in College Station has teams from all across Texas competing, and will be a tough task for the young softball team, (which only has two seniors on the team). However, while having a young team, it doesn’t take away the teams aspirations and goals for the season.
“We do have a young team, but we all feel we can accomplish great things this season, and having only two seniors doesn’t have an effect on what we think we can do,” Angelico said.
After the tournament the Jags have a busy and tough schedule as they take on Judson on February 19, and play in the NEISD tournament on February 22 and 23. The first district game will be played against MacArthur on March 1.
“We have a busy schedule, but we will be able to make it work and be successful while we’re at it,” junior Katie Weinman said.
