Scorpions kick off new season

San Antonio Scorpions soccer is set to kick off at the new Toyota Field this Saturday April 13. This will be the first home game played there. The team will look to bounce back after a draw against Minnesota United FC which was their first game of the year. The Scorpions will be taking on the Tampa Bay Rowdies in this highly anticipated matchup.

New stadium built for the first ever MLS soccer team in san antonio and for other public uses. Located next to Morgans Wonderland and the NEISD Hero’s stadium.

Representing Johnson high school in the Scorpions organization, is senior Jonathan Rextroat. Rextroat is on the Scorpion’s practice squad and is very in energized for the season to reach its prime.

“It’s an amazing atmosphere that gives off a great vibe with just being out on the field,” Rextroat said. “The coaches and players are great to be around.”

San Antonio has been a great host to the Scorpions due to the sponsorships from many businesses such as the Lion and Rose Pub.

“San Antonio has been a tremendous source of support for the Scorpions and will continue to grow in the future,” Rextroat said.

The community is very optimistic that the team will transfer all their dedication and training to the field. Many people are excited to get back into the season and all the joys of SA soccer.

“The games are eccentric and energizing to be at,” sophomore Andrew Hoover said. “The atmosphere is unbelievable with all the fans cheering on their team.”
