Johnson football has just wrapped up their third game of the 2013 season and doing so with a dominant win over Wagner. The Jags routed the Thunderbirds ending in a final score of 43-0 also recording their first shutout of the year. Both offense and defense looked convincing against Wagner putting 43 on Wagner and not allowing entrance to the endzone at all. The Jags mindset is now focused on the Unicorns of New Braunfels, the Unicorns come in with a record of 0-3 while the Jags are sitting with a 2-1 record. After the upcoming clash with New Braunfels, the Jags will roll into district facing MacArthur.
“So far we are satisfied with how we have been playing, we would’ve liked to get that week 2 win against Brandeis but thats just not how it happened. We know we have a big first district game coming up and we feel we have prepared properly. All of us our keeping level heads knowing that we have a 3-1 record,” senior Devlin Gilligan said.
Johnson varsity volleyball just finished their matchup against Southwest in their annual Dig Pink game supporting breast cancer awareness. Their overall record is 19-13 and have only played one district game so far but winning that game making them 1-0 in district play. The jags are currently the number 8 team in the city and number 3 in district.
Cross country both girls and boys varsity have been very solid thus far into their season. They just completed the UTSA/ Romo invitational and the girls took 16 and the boys took 11. In the boys 5k, senior Robert Ford for was the highest place for the Jags and Emily Bandy for the girls. Their next meet is the Northside ISD on September 28. For the JV Jags cross country team they have also been ‘beast’ when running continuing to have strong showings at their meets.
“In order to be successful we have to train hard and condition as much as possible. We have high expectations and look to reach our goals,” senior Robert Ford said
The Jags tennis squad is currently playing unbelievable tennis they have been rapidly handing their opponents losses. Currently, their record is 9-1 with a strong district showing so far being 3-0. Undefeated in district play, these Jags look like a solid team. Johnson Tennis had a great showing last year and they look to repeat this year. The Jags ace Chuyang Guan is returning after winning the state title her freshman year.
