Summer of 2015 is surely going to be one to remember, with many many great groups, including local groups playing here in San Antonio and in Austin. A load of local bands have been emerging from the depths of the underground San Antonio music scene, with much creativity and eagerness to play.
One of the great things about San Antonio and Austin is the amount of venues and music houses that love to promote up and coming musicians and groups, and the diversity of these places.
Say if you’re out to see rock or metal, there a more places to catch a show of this sort in San Antonio, as opposed to Austin, which has a bigger indie and underground scene. Such as the K23 Gallery in San Antonio, if you’re looking to see an influx of up and coming psychedelic groups and acts, this is definitely the place to go. But, seeing it as the psychedelic scene is booming, it is still young and up and coming in San Antonio.
If you’re looking for a more “rock-y” type of environment, the Paper Tiger (formerly known as the White Rabbit) is definitely the place to go for an all around good time, with many groups of all different forms of rock, and even some rap depending on the time and date that you go. Due to the load of all the different styles and sizes of venues strewn about San Antonio and Austin, there are a WIDE variety of shows to go to, and places to experience.
A great band to catch is Verisimilitude. Despite the name that embeds itself into your soul the second you hear it, the group proves to be even greater to enjoy in my experience. Filled with a group of caring people that really want to put on the best show they can, Verisimilitude is definitely a name you want to keep your eye out for on signs in and around Austin and downtown San Antonio. Another local band (the lead singer is a senior here at Johnson) here in San Antonio is Xurl. This group has been destroying local venues such as The Korova for a few years now, and each time I have ever seen them live they never fail to keep the crowd moving. Trust me, I’ve broken my glasses twice, both times at a Xurl show.
There are a load of great groups that are coming out of these two cities, but of course it’s very important to keep an eye on Austin, mainly because of all the venues and the long history of great music groups coming from there.
