A new adaptation of the classic Diary of a Wimpy Kid series of books was released on Disney+ earlier this month, but it fails to live up to what made the original live action movies so great.
Matt Krause, member of the Texas House of Representatives, has targeted and compiled a list of 850 books he believes to cause students discomfort. This has a real effect on students in NEISD - these books could be pulled off the shelves.
National Poetry Month was introduced in 1996 by the Academy of American Poets. Our school celebrates National Poetry Month by doing blackout poetry, this will take place the entire month of april. Blackout poetry is where you take a page from a book and cross out words with a black marker to make a poem, and celebrates it in other ways as well. Teachers all year around also contribute to this by making students write poetry or do poetry related activities.
Hidden Figures
To start off this list, I chose to start with the New Year’s first successful movie. Hidden Figures is a motion picture that came out on January 6, 2017. This movie is about three African American women helping NASA launch one of the first successful space missions.
The morning of the first day of school, she hurriedly packs her backpack, only to find, under stacks of new clothes and school supplies, her summer reading book, newly purchased and untouched.
